Mary

Johnson

As the founder of Hounds in the Hub, Mary’s entire world revolves around dogs and she couldn’t be any more dedicated to her pack’s health and happiness. Mary is an expert in dog behavior and she has a true passion for working with dogs with behavioral issues, particularly helping to rehabilitate rescue dogs who struggle from anxiety and fear-based aggression. Mary is a firm believer in the old adage that there are no bad dogs— only bad people. As a Pitbull advocate, Mary couldn’t be any more proud to name her adorable (and super well socialized!) Blue Nose Pitbull Coney as the CEO of her company.

Before starting Hounds in the Hub, Mary worked as a paralegal and office manager for a few different law firms in Boston, including Bowditch & Dewey and WilmerHale. Mary is originally from the Lakes Region of New Hampshire where she grew up on a dirt road with lots of family pets. It was her upbringing in the woods of New Hampshire that has helped to shape her belief that while structured leash walks are very important, dogs also deserve the opportunity to run wild and free. Mary went to high school in Andover, MA, and later attended Wellesley College, where she graduated cum laude with degrees in English and biology.

When Mary isn’t covered in dog hair and slobber you can find her planning her next trip (she loves to travel), taking pictures (she loves photography), or working on writing her memoir, “Picking up Shit.”

Rachel O’Donoghue

Meet our effervescent Operations Manager and Client Intake Coordinator, Rachel O'Donoghue! Rachel is Mary's right-hand woman and the company literally could not run as smoothly as it does without her on the team.  Rachel is originally from Scituate, MA and has lived in Southie for three years now. She has done amazing work with the Scituate Animal Shelter working with dogs that have a variety of behavioral issues. Her understanding of dogs' body languages and temperaments has been extremely helpful to educating our team members and building new client relationships.

When Rachel isn't busy helping run Hounds in the Hub like the wonder woman that she is, she also manages another full-time job as an Insurance Underwriter in downtown Boston.

Rachel grew up with three well-loved family dogs whom she helped raise and train: Chester, Lily and Harper - all golden retrievers! In her free time, you can find Rachel staying active out on the golf course, the boat or the ski slopes! Make sure to say hi if you see Rachel around!
